The symbol system created for the 790th anniversary of Šiauliai tells the city’s story through symbols where the past, present, and future meet. Each symbol represents a distinct characteristic of the city, and together they form a cohesive narrative of Šiauliai’s identity.
The symbols reflect strength and protection, historical memory, awareness, closeness to nature, growth, and light. They are not separate signs, but a unified system that speaks of the city as a living organism—one that has roots, direction, and inner balance.
Strength and the connection to the city’s origins are symbolized by the bull (calf) — a sign of patience, perseverance, and the vitality of the land. The bear represents protection, safety, and calm self-confidence — an inner strength that safeguards and unites the community.
The city’s origin and historical grandeur are recalled by the ducal crown, symbolizing Šiauliai’s authority, dignity, and traditions. The Eye of Providence represents vigilance, wisdom, and protection — a conscious view of the world and inner balance.
Šiauliai’s natural character is revealed through water — lakes and rivers that have long shaped the city’s landscape and movement. The green city — parks and forests — emphasizes the connection with nature, tranquility, and quality of life.
A growing city speaks of change, development, and aspirations for the future, while the old and new city unites historical heritage with contemporary life. The Sun City embodies the name of Šiauliai itself — light, energy, and an open urban spirit.
These symbols, combined into a single visual system, become the emblem of Šiauliai’s jubilee year — a respectful look at the past, alive in the present, and boldly directed toward the future.
