On September 9 at 5:30 p.m., exhibitions by Aleksandra Jacovskytė (photography and drawings), Adomas Jacovskis and Marijus Jacovskis (painting) will open at the “Laiptai” Gallery of the Šiauliai Culture Centre.

As part of the traditional cultural events series “Cultural Landscape of Litvaks”, the exhibition invites visitors to explore Lithuanian Jewish culture, its creators and heritage through art. The works of three artists from the same family offer different yet interconnected perspectives on the human figure, face, surroundings, memory and inner states.

Aleksandra Jacovskytė’s photographs and drawings capture everyday moments – people, the city, gestures and fleeting impressions.

In Adomas Jacovskis’s paintings, the human face and figure become the central focus. Through colour, contour and form, the artist explores contemplation, loss, love and the inner world of the individual.

Marijus Jacovskis’s paintings also focus strongly on the human image, using faces and figures as a space for self-discovery and emotional experience.

The exhibition is particularly significant for Šiauliai: Adomas Jacovskis began his creative career as a set designer at the Šiauliai Drama Theatre, while Marijus Jacovskis has also created stage designs for several productions there. Aleksandra Jacovskytė’s works have already been exhibited at the “Laiptai” Gallery five times. Adomas Jacovskis is presenting his third exhibition there, while this is Marijus Jacovskis’s second.

The exhibition brings together photography, drawing and painting, showing how three artists from one family explore people, time, memory and emotional states through different artistic forms.

About the artists

Aleksandra Jacovskytė (b. 1945, Vilnius) is a set designer, theatre costume designer, graphic artist and photographer. She has participated in exhibitions since 1973 and has worked in theatre, film and at the Gaon Jewish History Museum. In 2009, she received the Golden Stage Cross for Best Costume Design.

Adomas Jacovskis (b. 1948, Vilnius) is a renowned Lithuanian theatre designer and painter. He has created stage designs for nearly 100 productions in Lithuania and abroad. In 2000, he received the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts.

Marijus Jacovskis (b. 1972, Vilnius) is a Lithuanian set designer and painter who has worked in Lithuanian and international theatres since 1991. He has received the Golden Stage Cross twice and has designed more than 150 theatre productions.
