On Saturday, 12 September 2026, at 2:00 PM, Antanas Visockis’s anniversary retrospective exhibition “The Great Wheels of the Big Dipper” will open at Šiauliai Art Gallery.

The exhibition will run until 3 October.

KEY DATES IN ANTANAS VISOCKIS’S LIFE AND ARTISTIC CAREER

Born on 18 July 1941 in the village of Džiuikiai, Šiauliai County. In 1947, he began attending the primary school in the village of Tyrelkai, Kužiai District. After moving to Šiauliai in 1950, he attended Julius Janonis Secondary School. He was a student of G. Bagdonavičius, who had a significant influence on his artistic development. From 1957 to 1962, he studied at and graduated from Kaunas Secondary School of Art (now J. Naujalis Gymnasium of Arts). From 1962 to 1968, he studied at the Vilnius State Art Institute (now the Vilnius Academy of Arts).

From 1968 onwards, he began participating in exhibitions as a painter and, together with his wife A. Visockienė, as a co-author of ceramic works created for interiors. In 1968, he moved to Šiauliai and worked as a lecturer at the art school. In 1969, he became a lecturer at the Faculty of Art in Šiauliai. From 1981 to 1985 and again from 1989 to 2012, he served as Head of the newly established Department of Painting. In 2006, he became Professor of Humanities in the field of art at Šiauliai University.

Between 1968 and 2026, he participated in approximately 300 group exhibitions and held 25 solo exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad.

Solo exhibitions in Lithuania: Vilnius, Kaunas, Šiauliai, Kuršėnai, Šaukėnai, Kužiai, Šiauliai District and the village of Džiuikiai.

Solo exhibitions abroad: France, Belgium, the Netherlands (The Hague, Willemstad, Etten-Leur), Baarle-Hertog and Antwerp.
