On August 19 at 7:00 p.m., the garden of the P. Bugailiškis Ethnology Centre of the Šiauliai Culture Centre will host a presentation of Gintas Gascevičius’s novel “KA ir BA” and a concert.
Known as a master of drums, Gintautas Gascevičius (Ginc) presents an original musical performance and sound theatre combining acoustic instruments, electronics, unexpected sound-making objects, visuals, and improvisation. The artist creates a cohesive experience in which rhythm becomes a story and the surrounding environment becomes another musical instrument. The sonic journey moves from quiet, contemplative, almost meditative passages to intense rhythmic climaxes. The music does not tell one specific story but instead opens a space for the listener’s imagination and personal experiences.
In Ginc’s creative work, traditional instruments merge with environmental sounds and unexpected sources of sound. Everyday objects become instruments, noise becomes music, and silence becomes an integral part of the composition. Each performance is live and unique, shaped by the specific location, its acoustics, atmosphere, and the audience present at that particular moment.
This is a performance for those who want not only to hear music but also to enter a distinctive sonic world—somewhere between rhythm and silence, reality and imagination.
The event will also feature the presentation of Gintautas Gascevičius’s latest book, “Ka ir Ba”. “Ka ir Ba” is a mystical novel (thriller) named after aspects of the soul in ancient Egyptian belief. It tells the story of three people and one city caught between two realities.
What lies within the pages of the book?
A city—a mystery.
“The city reveals itself only when you begin to doubt what you see,” says G. Gascevičius. In the novel, contemporary Šiauliai and the ancient Egyptian concept of the soul meet through the lives of its characters. Everyday life intertwines with inexplicable phenomena. The story explores experiences that cannot be proven yet cannot be dismissed, and knowledge that comes through the body, dreams, and strange coincidences.
Cracks in reality and duality.
Do we really see everything that surrounds us? This is a book about a boundary that is not drawn on maps—it emerges within consciousness.
Mystical tension and philosophical unease.
The book explores inner boundaries, guilt, responsibility, the illusion of freedom, and how often our choices are shaped by processes we cannot see.
“Ka ir Ba” is a novel about life when there are no answers:

G. Gascevičius has released the experimental music trilogy “FonoGrafijos” (2017), “Varava” (2018), and “Oneirologija” (2020), as well as the album “DDJ” (with Dalius Naujokaitis) and the book “Ginc ir išminties pedalas” (2023). The album “Šriodingerio katė” (2025) explored uncertainty through music. “Ka ir Ba” (2026) is the author’s first novel, marking the beginning of a new stage in his creative journey.
