On Wednesday, May 20 at 18:00, the Šiauliai Art Gallery will host a lecture by Justė Tarvydė, PhD candidate in Design at the Vilnius Academy of Arts and associate professor at the Department of Fashion Design, titled “Objects That Shape Us – The Wardrobe as a Laboratory of Identity.”

ABOUT THE LECTURE

Is it possible to understand a person just by looking at their clothes or their room? What do our clothing choices and living spaces reveal about us? This lecture invites us to view everyday objects not as a background to life, but as active agents in shaping identity.

Drawing on material culture anthropology, clothing and homes are analysed as social, emotional, and cultural structures that quietly but consistently form our self-perception. The wardrobe is presented not only as a storage space for clothes, but as a laboratory of identity, while the home becomes a materialised autobiography.

This lecture explores what usually goes unnoticed – the power of objects to shape a human being. And perhaps after it, you will see your wardrobe or room as a kind of self-portrait.

The lecture is part of the Šiauliai Art Gallery project “Young Art: Cultural Resistance II.”
