On July 6, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., the square next to the Šiauliai City Municipality (62 Vasario 16-osios St., Šiauliai) will host the cultural initiative “Carillon for Queen Morta: The Light of the Crown.”

This cultural initiative invites visitors to reflect on one of the most significant figures in the formation of the Lithuanian state and recalls the historical assumption that, before becoming Queen of Lithuania, Morta was the wife of Vismantas Bulionis, one of the dukes of the Šiauliai region. This connection offers an opportunity to explore the origins of the Lithuanian state not only through the story of Mindaugas, but also through the life of Queen Morta.

Programme:

  • A concert by the mobile carillon of the Museum of Gdańsk (Poland) featuring carillonneurs:
    • dr. Monika Kaźmierczak (Poland)
    • Witold Maciak (Poland)
    • Ignas Vydeika (Lithuania)
  • The art installation “The Light of the Crown”, on display from July 6 to July 26.

Event duration: approximately 1 hour

Organizer: Šiauliai Culture Centre
Funded by: Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania
