On May 15 at 18:00, the concert hall “Saulė” will host the Prof. Stasys Šalkauskis Prize award ceremony and a festive concert.
The Stasys Šalkauskis Prize is a prestigious cultural initiative that encourages and honours intellectuals, artists, and public figures who create meaningful ideas. It is awarded every three years, usually on May 16, and helps preserve and foster the philosophical and cultural legacy of Stasys Šalkauskis.
During the concert, Ola Gjeilo’s “Sunrise Mass” will be performed.
Ola Gjeilo is a Norwegian-born composer and pianist based in the United States. He is known for his contemporary, emotional, and widely appreciated sacred music. Sunrise Mass, composed in 2010, is a four-movement work for mixed choir and string orchestra. It does not follow a traditional liturgical structure, but instead reflects a philosophical and spiritual journey from the vastness of the cosmos to the inner world of a human being: The Spheres, Sunrise, The City, Identity & The Ground.
Today, Sunrise Mass is one of the most popular contemporary choral works worldwide, frequently performed by both professional and amateur choirs, as it is accessible to listeners while maintaining deep spiritual meaning.
