On June 23, from 19:00 to 22:00, the city will host the second cycle of the 790th anniversary programme of Šiauliai, “The Growth of the Sun. The Protecting Bear”, inviting visitors to experience a midsummer transformation filled with Baltic traditions, creativity, community spirit, and fire.

Ritual “Gates of Transformation”, interactive space “White Linen Courtyard”, educational activity “Mead House”, creative workshop “Spirits of Trees”, and musical performances “The Sounding Spring” by the folklore ensembles “Salduvė” (artistic director D. Daknys), “Vijolė” (artistic director A. Stankus), and the youth folklore ensemble “Vieversėlis” of Šiauliai Song Music School (director A. Stankus).

Special surprises await all visitors named Jonas, Janina and Janis.

19:00–22:00 | Earth Element Courtyard

Square near Šiauliai City Municipality (62 Vasario 16-osios St.)

Coin minting, leather and brass workshops, educational activities on traditional percussion instruments and tree cake baking, ethnographic games, and vendors of culinary and folk art heritage.

Povilas Višinskis Square (130 Vilniaus St.)

Incense and herbal incense-making workshops, panpipe playing, wicker weaving and traditional sash-making workshops, “Valpainiai” cheese tasting, educational activities by “Valerijonas” shop, folk dances and culinary heritage vendors.

Courtyard of Vilnius University Šiauliai Academy (38 P. Višinskio St.)

Fortune-telling with midsummer herbs, herb market, ritual “Amber Dust”, and flint fire-starting demonstrations.

Visitors will also be able to purchase Midsummer flower wreaths, herbal bouquets, and amber dust.

Throughout the evening, visitors collecting special marks from the Element Courtyards on their maps will be able to receive a commemorative gift at Sun Clock Square.

Featuring: Pasvalys sutartinės singers group “Rags”, Šiauliai Culture Centre Choreography Studio “Aušrelė”, folk dance ensemble “Šėltinis”, and folk dance studio “Šermukšnėlė”.
